VFW Scholarships

Each Fall VFW Post 9676 leads a campaign to solicit participation in the VFW National Scholarship Competition for students in grades 6 through 12 in Valencia County. Committee Chairman, John Tull (505-249-6104) will be leading the campaign.

Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy® audio-essay program provides ninth through 12th grade students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. The national first place winner receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. The New Mexico winner will receive a $1000 scholarship.

The VFW’s Patriot’s Pen® annual youth essay contest for a chance to win their share of more than $1 million in local and national awards. Each first place VFW Department (state) winner receives a minimum of $500 at the national level, and the national first place winner wins $5,000.
