Orlando Gurule was born in Los Lunas, New Mexico in September 1946. At age eighteen (18), he graduated from Los Lunas High School in 1964 and with the approval and signature of his parents, he joined the United States Army. Orlando chose to be a Finance Specialist (MOS 73D20). Orlando received his Basic Training in Fort Polk, Louisiana and then attended Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at the U.S. Finance and Accounting School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was then assigned to Fort Bliss, Texas. He worked in the Security Clearance Office. In May, 1965 Orlando was assigned to the Army Depot in South Korea (Camp Carol, Waegwon, Korea). He served as a bookkeeper in the Finance Office until discharged in June, 1967. From September, 1967 to July 1972, Orlando attended and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University. Orlando married in July, 1972 and has two children. Starting in 1981, he worked for the State of New Mexico, Real Estate Commission and Construction Industry Division as a Criminal Investigator and he retired in December, 2005. While a State of New Mexico employee, Orlando served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was assigned to Travis, AFB, California. He served as an Air Cargo Specialist, Ramp Services and completed annual tours in Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Hawaii and Italy. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force Reserves in September 2002. Orlando has traveled to several countries in Europe, including Spain, Israel, and to Mexico, South America and the State of Hawaii. He has visited all of the U.S. State Capitols. Since 2005, he has remained very busy researching his family ancestry.
